About the Parent School Alliance
The Parent School Alliance (PSA) is our Parent-Teacher Association. The PSA offers its support to the efforts of the teachers and administrators so that the students may receive the utmost benefit from their education. The PSA accomplishes this goal in three ways, by:
- promoting an understanding of Maria Montessori’s ideas;
- providing a forum for parents to communicate the needs of their children and families to the administration; and to offer solutions in a spirit of cooperation; and
- providing ideas and organizing the raising of funds for the school.
Parent participation is welcome in the classroom and guided by the needs of each particular class. Early Childhood teachers routinely post opportunities on classroom bulletin boards for parents (and grandparents!) to assist with classroom life. Examples include bringing a special project, chaperoning on field trips, bringing supplies for classroom animals, and assisting with classroom holiday parties.
Elementary and Middle School teachers provide sign-up sheets that give parents a variety of opportunities to volunteer in the classroom (e.g. artist/composer of the month activities, community kitchen, field trip chaperons, etc.) or to assist with other aspects of classroom life (e.g. bringing flowers for flower arranging or food for the classroom animals, etc.).
All parents of children at the school are automatically members of PSA and are encouraged to participate in PSA meetings and events. Meetings are held monthly, usually on the first Tuesday evening from 7 pm to 8 pm. If you have an item you would like discussed at the meeting please contact the PSA Co-Presidents to have the item placed on the agenda.
