SPECIALTY CLASSES
Our classroom teachers incorporate components
of Dance, Music and Art into the classroom curriculum. All of
our Early Childhood and Elementary students also attend Specialty
Classes taught by experts in these areas.
Spanish:* Our Early Childhood Spanish classes focus on developing an ear for Spanish pronunciation and communication, as well as acquiring vocabulary through skits, songs and activities. In Elementary Spanish classes,students use their acquired vocabulary and their own thoughts to create narratives in the target language. All students participate in cultural activities throughout the year to develop an awareness of the diverse cultures and traditions of Spanish speaking countries. Our Early Childhood and Elementary Spanish classes meet twice a week.
Dance:
Laura Krummenacher currently teaches both our Music
and Dance Specialty classes. Laura is agraduate from Utah State
University and her degree isin Music. She brings great enthusiasm
to her classes and some of her objectives are to help her students
to gain body awareness and control as well as learning to express
themselves through creative movement. Our Early Childhood dance
classes meet once a week and the Elementary classes meet twice
a week.
Music: Laura Krummenacher brings her vast
musical talents and qualifications to her position as our Music
teacher. Music and rhythm theory is taught as well as vocal
skills. The students are exposed to many different music styles
as well as music from many other cultures. The Elementary students
are learning to play the recorder and to play as part of an
ensemble. Lessons also reinforce the “Composer of the
Month” that our students learn about in their classrooms.
Our Early Childhood music classes meet once a week and the Elementary
classes meet twice a week.
Art: In Art classes, our students have the
opportunity to learn more about famous artists and their styles.
They receive instruction in the technical fundamentals of color,
shape, perspective and shading, and work with many different
media such as paint, pastels, pencil, collage, textiles, etc.
Each lesson is designed with enough structure to ensure success
as well as the freedom to be independently creative. Lessons
also reinforce the “Artist of the Month” that our
students learn about in their classrooms. Our Early Childhood
art classes meet once a week and the Elementary classes meet
twice a week. |
